NCG 6960 is also known as The Witch’s Broom Nebula or The Western Veil Nebula amongst others

Fun Facts

  • Distance from Earth – 1470 light-years away
  • Location – found in the Cygnus (The Swan) Constellation
  • What is it – Supernova remnant
  • Age – about 10,000 years old
  • Discovered by William Herschel on September 5, 1784

The image above is my first attempt at astrophotography and I am fairly pleased with the outcome, though I think I can do better in the processing. It’s compressed to reduce the size of the image on the website.

The above image is the result of 100 bias files, 100 darks, 100 flats and 50 X 60-second exposures taken on 16th July 2022 starting at 2330 and ending at 0023

This image was processed with Siril but I will try the same process in PixInsight and post the results at a later date.
